In this study, the coral reef microbial communities associated with four coral atolls in the Northern Line Islands (central Pacific) were surveyed. These atolls are of interest because although they are relatively close to each other ( km), they span an array of oceanographic conditions and are variably impacted by human by: Introduction: Palmyra Atoll is one of the Northern Line Islands (southeast of Kingman Reef and north of Kiribati Line Islands), located almost due south of the Hawaiian Islands, roughly one-third of the way between Hawaii and American Samoa.. The nearest continent is almost 3, miles to the northeast. The atoll is square miles and it is located in the equatorial Northern Pacific Ocean.
Northern Line Group: Washington and Fanning: Moderate to fresh easterly winds of 13 to 20 knots. Moderate to rough seas. Today: Occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms. Tonight: Rain showers continuing. Christmas Island: Gentle to moderate easterly winds of 6 to 13 knots and fresh at times to 20 knots. Moderate to rough ers: K. It is the northernmost of the Northern Line Islands and an unincorporated territory of the United States, part of the United States Minor Outlying Islands, administered from Washington, DC by the U.S. Navy. The reef is closed to the public. It was found in by Captain Edmund Fanning of the ship Betsey. Captain W.E. Kingman described it in
The Northern Limit Line or North Limit Line (NLL) – 북방한계선 (in ROK) – is a disputed maritime demarcation line in the Yellow (West) Sea between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the north, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the south. This line of military control acts as the de facto maritime boundary between North and South Korea. Study area. Filled dots indicate positions and areal extents of the five considered islands of the Northern Line Islands archipelago, from where larvae are released for Lagrangian simulations, while dashed circles enclose the area used as retention zone of each island (see Methods). Colors represent the magnitude of the surface velocity field Cited by: 5.

Also called Prospect Island, the name was changed to Teraina after Kiribati gained independence in The five tiny isles of the southern Line Islands are among the most isolated atolls on Earth.
The marine food web here, top-heavy with predators, is an example of the “inverted biomass pyramid,” a sign of reef health. In Kiribati President Anote Tong announced that a nautical-mile area around the southern Line Islands would be closed to commercial fishing beginning in Northern Lights.
